About The Lone Piper
Greetings! I am Rev. Dr. Mark C. Spellman and have been playing the Great Highland Bagpipes since 2002 when I joined the Pikes Peak Highlanders Pipes and Drums in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
I am currently an honorably retired Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) pastor living in Central Mississippi. I began my personal career studying architecture at Tulane University in New Orleans (MArch, 1975) and 15 years later entered Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, MS (MDiv/Counseling, 1992). After my seminary training I served various churches in Mississippi, Alabama, Texas and in Colorado. In 2017 I was awarded a Doctor of Ministry degree (DMin) from New Geneva Theological Seminary in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
I have been married for 52 years, have 4 children, 13 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.
My piping experience has allowed me to play for many weddings, funerals, birthday celebrations, and other special functions. I have played for the 3d Armored Calvary Regiment in Colorado Springs, honoring the families of fallen soldiers during Operation Iraqi Freedom III.
I have also participated at the Hinds County Board of Supervisors Annual Memorial Day Service, May 2019 and have played at Belhaven University graduation ceremonies and also participated at the First Baptist Church of Jackson Mississippi Festival of Light during Christmas.
When I play for any events I arrive fully dressed in Scottish attire wearing the Clark tartan which is my maternal family name and happens to also be one of the tartans designated for the clergy.
If you are interested in reserving my services I can accomodate most any request for music and bagpipes tunes and would be very excited about helping make your event memorable.
